Zoom Airlines is committed to environmental responsibility.

Their Boeing aircraft are fitted with engines that are amongst the most efficient in their class, meaning that their CO2 emissions per flight are lower than for many equivalent aircraft. Zoom also make every effort to avoid unnecessary fuel burn; they do this by ensuring their aircraft cruise at the optimum economic cruising speed during each flight.
Zoom’s aircraft do not have First Class or Business Class seating, as these waste space in aircraft. This means that Zoom’s CO2 emissions per passenger are up to 20% lower than those of major airlines (such as Air Canada and British Airways) on comparable flights.
There are also other areas where Zoom demonstrate their concern for climate change, and where they take measures to minimise their impact on the environment. Zoom Airlines Ltd is a pioneer of several environmental and ethical policies in its services from the UK to the USA and Bermuda during 2007. After trials have been completed, these measures will then be implemented across all Zoom flights comprehensively. These great new measures include:
• Reduction of on-board waste. Recycling of paper, drinks cans, card.
• All drinks tumblers will be made from corn starch instead of plastic. On-board cutlery and hot meal dishes will be made from sugar beet and cane products; drinks stirrers will be made of wood from renewable sources.
• The use of renewable natural resources instead of plastics for these service items reduces the long-term effect of waste from each flight – these compost into a natural state in around 14 days, instead of 15-20 years for equivalent plastic products to break down.
• Using 9Lives recycled paper and environment-friendly acid-free inks for all printing of on-board magazine, safety cards and documents. These will be recycled again when Zoom have finished using them
• Zoom’s offices have been fitted with energy-saving movement sensors to reduce electricity use.
• Zoom’s tea, coffee, sugar and orange juice products – both on board their aircraft and in their offices – are all sourced from approved FairTrade suppliers, guaranteeing a fair price for the commodity producers in regions of Africa, Asia and Latin America. Zoom are also proud to be offering a choice of beers and wines on their flights, which will include FairTrade products.
•
Environment briefings for every Zoom staff member during induction and initial training – including providing them with low-energy light-bulbs to reduce their electricity usage and carbon output at home.
• Zoom is also actively focusing on environmental issues when agreeing service contracts with their suppliers including catering companies, ground handling companies and the hotels in which their aircrews stay. Zoom want to see their suppliers implementing and maintaining a robust environmental programme so that Zoom’s corporate spending is, in turn, being used responsibly.
All these fabulous improvements do mean that you may find one or two things out of the ordinary when flying with Zoom’s team this year. It’s all part of Zoom’s environmentally-conscious policy, designed to ensure they operate an ethically responsible airline. We do hope that this will become a key factor in your decision to fly with Zoom, who will continue to work hard to continuously improve their environmental performance.
