The 1988 Winter Olympics, 1997 World Police and Fire Games, and the 2002 Nokia Briar are just a few examples of Calgary's world-class reputation of hosting sport events. If you are in Calgary's downtown during your Canada holiday and feel like shopping, you will find three adjoined malls Calgary Eaton Centre, TD Square and Scotia Centre with four levels of shops and even an indoor tropical garden. From Calgary you can visit Alberta’s Rocky Mountains, one of the most beautiful places in the world. The attraction of this area is nature itself. Recreational opportunities available to visitors on Canada holidays range from skiing to snowmobiling and rock climbing to hiking to name a few. Rent a bike in Calgary and explore Canada’s longest web of continual paths totalling 460km or if you want to visit another city nearby to Calgary, head to beautiful Edmonton for the day. An hour and a half drive northeast brings you to Drumheller and the Royal Tyrrel Museum of Palaeontology, the world’s most extensive display of dinosaurs. Two and a half hours to the south of Calgary brings you to Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, a World Heritage Site designated to the preservation of buffalo jumps. A 45-minute trip west takes you to the Kananaskis Trail, where you can enjoy panoramic views of Alberta’s ranching country, learn about the area and get active in the many sport activities. Or you can head north toward the Canadian Badlands Trail to discover two-billion-year-old rocks and the largest collection of dinosaur skeletons in the world.

Calgary has a dry climate, but the temperature and climatic conditions can vary from day to day. The weather in Calgary varies quite dramatically, from extreme cold in the winter to heatwaves exceeding 32°C (90°F) in the summer. Normally July and August are pleasant months for a Canada holiday in Calgary. Average temperatures are 20ºC to 25ºC.
